My name is Aidan Bernard, I just finished the 2020-2021 wrestling season as a Junior in Montrose, Michigan at Hill McCloy High School. I started wrestling in the 3rd grade, when I was 8 years old. From the first time I stepped in the room and wrestled it became my passion, and what I knew I wanted to do, and be the best of the best. That passion has continued to grow over the last 9 years. The things that drew me to the sport was the challenge, the mutual respect of the competitors, and the drive it sparked in me. My goals have always been to be the best wrestler and person that I can be. I know that I will be an asset to any team. Not just because of only my personal abilities and accomplishments, but because I have always supported my teammates and the other wrestlers I have become friends with.
I have been given awards as the hardest grinder in the room, team captain, and I also help to coach and mentor our youth programs. I love this sport on all levels. My coaches rely on me and we have mutual trust and respect. We are a not a team, we are a family. It gives me so much pride when young wrestlers come to cheer me on, watch me on television when they can’t come, or just call me to talk.
I am a two time high school state qualifier and placer. I am the team caption and started on the varsity team as freshman. This year my goal is to become THE state champion in my weight and division, go undefeated, and find a school that I can beginning working on my career goals while competing in the sport I love.
I am in all honors classes and started taking high school classes as an 8th grader. I take my future and classes as seriously as I do my sport.
After school, I want to become a counselor by majoring in Psychology and minor in a behavioral science. I am a three-sport athlete, participating in wrestling, football and track, all at the varsity level, but wresting has always been my passion. I am very respected in my community and support my community in every sport and event. I am a team player and like to be challenged. I want to be pushed as hard as possible and don't like when people take it easy on me. I work hard and keep working through struggles including injures, weight, and other struggles I am faced with. I pride myself on setting goals and then overachieving them. I work on and off season to improve my skills and technique. I am looking forward to the next step in my wrestling career and proving I am the best addition to my next team.
My high school in season stats are: 93 pins or voids, 3 Techs, 5 Majors, 10 by points to win (this does not include post season stats). It was difficult this year in Michigan with our matches being very limited (last year I had 58 matches, and this year only 24), but I am so happy we were able to get to wrestle.
