My name is Julian Lee, class of 2020. I love soccer and would really love to continue playing at the college level. I would also like to pursue a medical or business degree so I am looking for a school with strong programs in those areas. The high school I attend has a very rigorous college prep curriculum and is also an IB (International Baccalaureate) school. This year, I have 1 IB class, 1 AP class and 4 honors classes. I have been able to achieve a 4.07cumulative GPA all while participating in several sports and activities and achieved "Highest Honors" in the National Honor Society. My sophomore year, I received the MVP award for Varsity Football-Special Teams as I made 45 out of 48 point-after/field goal attempts. In addition, I was 1 of 2 sophomores chosen to represent my school at the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY) in June of 2018, and I was chosen to be a Peer Leader for Notre Dame Prep. I also traveled to China with my Chinese class this summer.
I believe I am a strong soccer candidate because I have an unfailing amount of grit, very strong work ethic, technical ability, quickness, and versatility on the field. However, I think my strongest assets are that I am very coach-able because I always want to improve, and that I am a leader that supports his teammates in success and failure. This will be my 9th year playing club soccer, and I have been a starter for the past 8 years as a right wing, left wing and striker. Most recently, I have developed in the positions of right and left back and have had great success playing there.
In addition to my club soccer team, I have tried out and have been selected for the Coerver Soccer Performance Academy (Michigan) for the last 7 years. I am fortunate to be 1 of about 25 kids in Michigan in the 2001-2002 birth years combined to be part of this prestigious academy. It has taught me great technical skills, how to deal with intense pressure, discipline, and the value of hard work through determination. This fall, I played for my high school team for the first time. I wanted to support my school and it was a great experience.
Overall, I believe I would be a valuable asset to any team because I am a versatile athlete that is able to bring a whole new level of energy to any field I step onto. I am always willing to take a risk and try new things. In addition to soccer, this will be my 5th year as the starting kicker/punter for Notre Dame Prep. Last year, I made the Varsity Football team as a sophomore, and I am also a percussionist for the high school band. I have 8 years of dance training in tap, ballet, jazz, and hip hop and take great pride in this sport. In 2017, I tried my luck at participating in the high school musical "Anything Goes" and it was a blast. In addition, I am a member of the Pre-Med Club at school.
I am very optimistic about my future and am highly determined to achieve my goals in soccer and academics.
