I have been playing soccer most of my life and it has taught me discipline and hard work. These two skills are also applicable to school. School and soccer complement each other because they take the same core values to succeed. Each one helps me become better at the other. In school, I am most dedicated to math and science. I like these two topics because they stretch my mind to think about things in a new way to solve a puzzle. I enjoy plunging my time into school because it is rewarding to see results of hard work.
One of my favorite seasons of soccer was when I made varsity as an 8th grader. This was the first team I felt like I was part of a family. I was two or more years younger than anybody on the team and I was scared. It was intimidating to play with older players but throughout that year I was able to experience some of the things that have helped shape me as a soccer player. The leaders on this team always picked me up when I was down and always encouraged me to continue getting better. As I have gotten older and become a leader on the varsity team I have been able to apply the same leadership skills I experienced as a young player. Being able to apply these leadership skills to help younger plays feel more confident and comfortable on the team is rewarding. I can see them start to interact with the team more, out of practice, and relax which helps them perform better. My dedication and leadership skills have driven me to become better soccer player and person. These characteristics continue to prepare me for being a successful college athlete.
