The environment of being a soccer player on a competitive team and contributing to a team's success has created my passion for playing soccer. It has taught me how I am someone who allows defeat to motivate me, loves the feeling of winning, and is a very competitive person with good sportsmanship. My competitiveness is an important quality because it reveals itself in the classroom and on the field. I am determined to try to set myself up for a successful future. I know that those hopes begin with the work I put in now as a student, hence why I value my grades. When I’m on the field, my competitiveness shows in other ways. I am an aggressive player who hates losing but accepts when I lose and uses the loss as a drive to do better the next time. When I was growing up, I was a poor sport and it was shown by my behavior. When I would lose, it was clear because I would throw a fit. My Dad had to put a stop to it and taught me about sportsmanship and how I cannot always win. He also included the most important part of that lesson, which is how losing allows growth.
Now that I have gotten older and have lost plenty of games over the years, I have also grown a lot as a player. My ambition to play the forward position grew as my game developed and I found myself scoring more goals with the assistance of my natural speed. I have always been complimented about my speed when I first started playing sports for my town's youth soccer association called EYAA (Epping Youth Athletic Association). Epping is a small town that comes with a small school district. Currently, the total amount of high school students enrolled is around 250 students, which is very small and makes my high school division four. My grade only has 52 students but having a small class has allowed me to be very involved because everyone knows everyone. I created a representation of myself as a good person, student, and someone with leadership qualities. My most important leadership positions are class president, national honor society president, and junior-school board representative, but I am still involved in additional clubs which continue to highlight my character and my dedication to my high school.
I am respectful, responsible, communicative, self-directed, and committed as a student and athlete. These characteristics are noticeable and my high school coach saw the promise I had. In my sophomore year, I had a breakout year by going from only scoring four goals freshman year to 21 goals. When my junior season began, my coach selected me to serve as the only captain for the 2022 season. I ended up breaking two records: the most goals scored in a single season and the all-time goal record. The record for most goals in a single season used to be 27 and the all-time scoring record used to be 50, but now I have the record for most goals in a single season at 42 and I currently have the all-time scoring record at 67. Another soccer team, a club called Become Elite Soccer, is a team I joined this year. Right away, I immediately knew my place on the team and I believe I fit in effortlessly even though it was with a group of players who have been playing together for a while without me. I think this portrays how I am adaptable to new things and am compatible.
Although I do not know everything to expect from collegiate soccer, I believe I will be able to adjust quickly to the ecosystem as a college athlete and will proceed to evolve as a soccer player thanks to the coaches and the exemplary teammates I would be surrounded by.
