Whenever I have faced athletic or academic challenges I have always tried to adopt a problem-solving mindset.
During the lockdown, when restrictions were placed on most sports, I trained individually, and then eventually arranged safe soccer practices for the high school. I took the initiative and reached out to upperclassmen and we organized drills and games for the boy's soccer program over the summer. Our progress in the 2020 season during our league games and our run to the state sectional final was a perfect result of the team's hard wok and determination over the summer. I think that my tacit role as a team leader was a contributing factor to the team's success. During my post season evaluation, my coach told me I will be a senior year varsity captain..
On the first day of my junior year, my honors English teacher outlined his concept of a successful student in his class. As I listened, I began to think that I would not be able to do well throughout the year, because I didn't think of myself as a reader. Instead of switching to a less demanding English class, I forced myself to find time in my day to read. Now, I consistently participate in class and efficiently complete my work.
I apply the same mindset when I am on the field; as a midfielder, I can find open space and pass the ball through narrow channels that others don't see. I am able to asses when to move the ball up the field, or when to possess the ball and swing it to each side of the field.
