My name is Lucas Williford. I am a high school senior looking to further my educational experience while at the same time playing the sport I love. My love for soccer comes from my dad. I was on the field at 2 years old watching him from the sidelines playing adult league soccer. I have played many sports over the years, but soccer is the one that I connected with. My grandfather played a college and professional basketball which has always been an inspiration in my mind and a goal for me.
I enjoy playing left outside back the most, which is where I typically play for my high school team in a 4-3-3. My club coach predominately utilizes me as a left center back in a 3-4-3. I feel I am good at reading the field of play and being a leader on the field. My coaches tell me I stand out because I have a strong predominate left foot. People tell me I am a quiet person, however on the field I am the exact opposite. I think I am probably quiet off the field because my biggest struggle is dealing with dyslexia on a daily basis with my schoolwork. I’ve had to learn different tools to accomplish my goals on and off the field. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work-ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact. Specifically, my High School coach requires that the players run training sessions on our own and hold each other accountable. He expects us to be leaders on and off the field to our teammates and younger players in the program. He makes us figure out what we did wrong and how we can fix it. My work ethic is to push until I accomplish my goal by working smart and hard.
