Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Conner Walter. I live in Gallipolis, Ohio and attend Ohio Valley Christian School. I am a 6'7 goalkeeper in the class of 2022. I have a 6'8 wingspan and a 22 inch vertical. I have raw talent. I do whatever it takes to keep the ball out of the net. I can punt consistently beyond the center circle and even up to the 18 yard box. I take my own goal kicks and consistently place them in the center circle. I have good reaction time and use my length to my advantage. I'm comfortable and confident reading the ball and the player on 1-1 situations. I have very good vision and play in the future. I am a team player and have good communication skills out of the box. I am the co-captain and the leader of the team. I am very humble and willing to do whatever it takes to use my full potential to become the best player I can be. I have work to do to become better. In the classroom, I am a hard worker to improve my GPA. I plan to retake my ACT due to my low score. I have not determined what I'm going to major in the future.

Coach's Comments Hey Conner, I had a great time working with you and talking with you at camp today. You've got great size and you utilize your size well. The key now is building a solid technical foundation and to back up your natural advantages in the position. You have a great attitude, a growth mindset and a good head on your shoulder. I think there's opportunities for you to play college soccer and with enough supporting in learning and practicing the technical principles of goalkeeping you're going to be a great keeper for any school When you dive, keep your body/chest facing the shooter. Often times when you step to dive, you step with your toe facing the way that you want to dive. This means you generally end up diving on your stomach. Not only does that limit your range but it makes it very difficult to hold onto the ball. Focus on taking your "power step" with your toes facing more toward the shooter and chest facing outward toward the field of play. Try to land on your side. Continue to build a solid technical foundation. Contour catches, basket catches, and scoops/front smothers all should be a focus for you when building this foundation. At the end of the day, we want to hold more balls and be able to keep possession for our team and prevent rebounds. Try to work on your two touch passing. As a goalkeeper in today's game, you need to be able to consistently, quickly and reliably be an option for your team to pass to and maintain possession with. Practice setting your first touch up passing against a wall or working with a friend.
