Matthew Cornelius '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Matthew Cornelius, and I am currently a Senior at Strongsville High School in Strongsville, Ohio with an expected graduation date of May, 2021.  Upon graduation, I’m looking to attend a university that is very strong both academically and athletically.

I have spent the last five years playing at Internationals SC in the US Soccer Development Academy.  I’m a central midfielder, but have significant experience at the USSDA level as an outside back and outside mid.   I am a versatile player with an extremely high work rate.  I have great vision and passing ability, and am physically strong on the ball.  Outside of soccer, I'm a very competitive track athlete, placing 9th in the state of Ohio in the High School Division I State Championships in the 4 x 400m relay and 13th in the High School Division I Indoor State Championships in the individual 400m.

Academically, I’m an excellent student.  I am taking all of the honors and AP courses available to me and am a straight-A student (weighted GPA of 4.8/4.0) with an ACT composite score of 35.  I am also a National Merit Semifinalist.  It’s the combination of academic rigor and athletic excellence that I’m looking for in college and I’m confident that I would be able to contribute both in the classroom and on the pitch.
