My name is Jackson Purbs and I am currently a player for the Hamilton United League One Reserves set to graduate in the year 2022. I first began playing soccer at the age of three for a local club and I became obsessed with the sport itself. For the last 14 years I've spent every single day trying to improve as a player. Whether it be my fitness, technical ability or my IQ for the game I've always been obsessed with developing my skillset in order to maximize my performance on the field. Soccer has also been a tool that I've used to learn many different skills in life. These skills include, leadership, the ability to work with others, discipline, work-ethic and much much more. Within this sport I've found an outlet where I'm free of any emotions or stress that have been a weight on my shoulders. That is why I fell in love with the sport. When I'm on the field any problem I'm struggling to deal with goes away and I can just focus on the game.
My goal to play at the collegiate level comes from my desire to both pursue an education, while still being able to compete at the highest level so that I can continue to develop as a player and a person. I want to help whichever team I may end up at to the very best of my ability. While I fully understand that in general college soccer is very competitive, I see myself as very different from any other prospects/recruits in my class. For starters, I have a relentless mindset and competitive drive when it comes to both training and performing in the game. My desire to constantly improve and to be the best fuels me everyday in my various training and I will stop at nothing to achieve whatever goals I set for myself. Another thing that makes me unique is the fact that I'm position-less. While I may be primarily an attacking midfielder / winger, I possess the skill, athleticism and mentality to be able to learn to play any position where I'm needed. My technical ability also sets me apart from other players. My footwork, ball manipulation and ability to dribble is something that I've spent countless hours mastering and perfecting and I feel that I'm able to perform these things at a very high level. I can also say that I have very good technique with both of my feet. I have the capability to both shoot efficiently, and to play long balls in the air or driven along the ground 50+ yards. This passing range along with my vision are what I feel make me a very deadly player in the attacking third. Finally, I also would like to add that my speed, agility, strength and change of direction are some of what I think are my most valuable physical qualities that I can bring to your team.
I am also a student athlete who can perform as well in the classroom as I can on the field which is evident with my current GPA. In the classroom, teachers have described me as a leader who is driven, disciplined and willing to do whatever it takes to succeed from an academic standpoint. I received both the science and technology and French awards from my old public school, Wellington Heights Secondary as well as being an honor roll student during each of my high school years at E.L. Crossley. I hope that I can continue to both achieve great things academically and athletically in my high school and collegiate careers. All in all, I feel that to your school, I can bring a talented, intelligent individual who is not afraid to fail and understands that it is apart of becoming better. I will strive everyday to be a better person, player, teammate and member of your program and I will work my hardest day in and day out to achieve great success on and off the field.
