I love to compete: in the classroom, on the pitch, on the court, and on the track. But soccer is my passion. As a freshman I was determined to earn a starting position and play along side my older teammates and my brother who was our goalie. I earned a starting outside-back position my Freshman year by demonstrating my speed, to make overlapping runs and recover quickly, my physicality playing fearlessly against seniors, and my soccer IQ, by not making fundamental and emotional mistakes. My sophomore year was delayed while I recovered from surgery to fix a shoulder injury, but once I was cleared to play I quickly re-earned my starting outside-back position. We had a cinderella season as we entered the state playoffs in 13th position. I was moved to center back, taking a senior's position in the first round of playoffs, after demonstrating that I keep my composer under pressure. Throughout the playoffs, I saved multiple goals when our goalie challenged off the line and was beat. We made it all the way to the finals. Unfortunately lost to the #2 team in penalty shootouts. What I take from away from my career, so far, is that winning is great but the journey is what matters.
This year I was selected as Captain, and I am tasking myself to help build our team character on and off the field. I organize Friday night events to keep the team building strong relationships off the pitch. This will carry us through difficult games this season, and hopefully we will make a deep run into the playoffs. Soccer is more than just a game, it builds character, and the relationships we develop along the way help define who we are as young men .
