Personal Statement

My name is Seth Arthurs. Playing soccer has been a passion of mine since I started playing in second grade.  Through hard work and dedication, I was able to become a varsity player my freshman year in high school and a starter my sophomore year.  My junior year I was made the team captain and we won the 4A Oregon State Championship.  During my senior year, we were undefeated in conference play and I earned first-team all conference and second team all-state honors. Along with soccer, I have run track and XC in high school and have been on the varsity squads for these sports every year I have participated. My dedication to soccer isn't only present on the pitch, but also in the classroom. I have taken AP and college-credit classes while maintaining a 3.9 GPA and working a part-time job.  I am looking forward to the next level of competition in soccer at the collegiate level and hope to get a degree in a STEM, health science or business field.

  • Evaluated at Showcase Camp - Portland Boys on 11/20/2021 by Coach Doyle of U.S. Air Force Academy. Overall score of 4.5 stars out of 5. Skillset Overview Technical Abilities - 92 / 100 Passing - Creates opportunities for teammates with accurate passes. Rarely over or under hits the ball. Defending - Aggressive as a defender. Good footwork and positioning, and seems to enjoy the 1v1 battles. Tactical Abilities - 92 / 100 Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. Defensive Awareness - Understands team defensive schemes, shows understanding of positioning and angles. Physical Abilities - 95 / 100 Endurance - Great work rate throughout camp. Showed endurance that helped effectiveness, especially late. Explosiveness - Great quickness and explosiveness, especially in the first step or two. Mental Abilities - 95 / 100 Confidence - Great confidence, didn’t shy away when challenged at camp and played with a sense of urgency. Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. Coach's Comments Seth had a very good day with us at the Exact camp in Portland. He is primarily a central midfielder but is also quite comfortable playing on the outside. He has the fitness and determination to cover a lot of ground- on both sides of the ball. He is quite good in the attack, but probably even better on the other side of the ball. Overall, I think Seth is a very good player now who will definitely contribute at the college level. We (coaches) want to see our players sprint. If you have the ability to run past players and get into dangerous spots, we want to see it! This is the very first trait of a player that we identify whenever we show up to a field. You want to showcase your pace/athleticism early and often. There is nothing more valuable in our game than the ability to create chances for others and score goals yourself. Spend as much time in training in front of the goal as you possibly can and do everything in your power to perfect that piece of your game. I am a firm believer that you can never be "too good" at something. Continue to develop your ball-striking abilities with both feet, work on your defensive and attacking headers, make your communication skills even better.
