Jonathan Merli '22 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Jonathan Merli and I would like to introduce myself!

I am 17  years old and a senior at Freeport High School located in Sarver, PA.  I play varsity soccer for Freeport High School Yellowjackets. As a freshman, I started at Left Outside Back on the varsity team and then moved and started at Center Back my sophomore year.

We play in the WPIAL Class 3A conference, in Section 1. Our non-conference schedule includes many of the largest/highest ranked teams in the state from the Western Pennsylvania area. I often get matched up against some of the best players in the WPIAL. In the 2019/2020 season, I was voted Defensive MVP during my sophomore year.  2021/2022 season, I was elected team captain. 

In addition to training in the winter and playing indoor soccer including futsal. I also play club soccer for Hotspurs Soccer Club based out of Cheswick, PA in the spring as a Center Back.  Where I have been voted and named captain three (3) consecutive years (2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020).  I was voted Player’s Player Award two (2) consecutive years (2017/2018 and 2018/2019) and Coaches Player Award in 2016.  

I am a very good student and take my education seriously.  I am not 100% decided on my major, but it will likely be something like Engineering. While I am a good student, I do have a lot of friends and family that are important to me. I am also involved in Chorus and also play golf as a hobby.
