My name is Owen Driggers, and I am a rising junior at Dutch Fork High School in Columbia, SC. I am looking for a college that helps me meet my goals both on and off the field. On the field, I hope to play center midfielder for a program that is both competitive and fun. In the classroom, I hope to major in the medical sciences.
Soccer has been part of my life for a long time. My mom’s family is from Guatemala, where soccer is king. My grandfather played for the Guatemalan national team before going to medical school. I started playing soccer when I was four and have never looked back. I also enjoy playing pick-up basketball with my friends.
As a player, I have several strengths that a college coach would like. I have a powerful left foot and can score from distance. I am tall, strong, and athletic, so I can win 50/50 balls and hold possession. I also have great vision and can pass accurately and quickly with both feet. I am good at knowing what to do with the ball before it gets to me.
Soccer has taught me some valuable life lessons. At an individual level, it has taught me the importance of self-confidence and being myself, instead of copying others. It has also taught me about overcoming adversity (such as injury) through hard work and dedication. At the team level, soccer has taught me the importance of encouraging others and valuing people of different backgrounds and ethnicities. My teammates are some of my best friends.
I have strong support from my family. They all want what is best for me, which is a college experience that makes me a better person and prepares me for a successful career. They know that I love soccer and have encouraged me to look for a school that fits my needs as a player and a student.
If my profile interests you, please contact me. I am excited to learn about your program.
