I have enjoyed playing soccer for many years. A consistent theme from my coaches, including some at recruitment camps, is that I am a hard working, consistent, coachable soccer player. One of my high school coaches, Ben Price, said I am, “one of the most coachable players” he has “ever had the pleasure of coaching” and that I am “smart on the ball, rarely turn it over, and have a great understanding of the game.” I also have a good sense of looking for space for support angles, both offensively and defensively.
This is my third year on my high school’s varsity soccer team. Although I am a defensive midfielder, I have filled in for our goalkeeper who has been out for medical reasons. While I would rather be on the field running back and forth, I am proud that I am universal and strong enough to fill in for a different position when needed. In three games as keeper, I haven't allowed any goals. My goal is to continue to work on further developing my skills and contribute to the team as needed.
I am also playing Liverpool club soccer. This is my second year on the team. It is a challenge at times to balance two soccer practices and two games schedules with homework. However, I find that the busier I am, the more efficient I am. Because I can’t sit still on the weekends, I am also a soccer referee for all levels of play from recreational teams to D1 U18 games. It has been interesting to see the game from a different perspective and I feel I have learned a lot from this experience.
I was recently notified that I have been accepted into our school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. I am proud of this acceptance and will work hard to maintain the high level of character, leadership, volunteer hours and grades necessary to remain a member in good standing.
I am taking engineering courses through the nationwide engineering program, “Project Lead the Way.” In my “Principles of Engineering” course taken my sophomore year, I developed and created a model of a soccer goal that would detect when a soccer ball (but not any body parts) crossed the goal line. I did this with a non-soccer playing partner. This year, as a junior, I will be taking dual credit engineering courses through the University of Texas at Tyler. In college, I want to study civil engineering and possibly minor in sports management.
I am looking for the right fit, both academically and athletically. I am a consistent and coachable player and continue to develop my soccer skills every single day. I am looking forward to balancing soccer and engineering courses in college.
