I plan to work in fitness or physical therapy after I graduate. I know I will gain great satisfaction from helping my patients or clients improve and heal from injuries.
In terms of my technical strengths as a swimmer, I am specialized in sprint underwater kicking. As you can tell from my swim videos, I took advantage of each wall in 100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Backstroke since my underwater ability can maximize my efficiency in a race. Furthermore, I believe in my to-be-discovered potential in swimming: my best time in 100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Backstroke were 59.29 and 1:03.82 in my sophomore season. To give my swimming career a last try, I decided to switch to a new team and soon had the best season ever. After a year of hard-work and proper training, I swam 54.12 and 56.46 in both events. I believe in my momentum and potential when it comes to swimming.
Through swimming and academics, I have learned to be patient and resilient. One time, I went to the coach eagerly and asked him for advice from the “I am not good at this” perspective. He paused for a second, and then replied to me with words I will never forget: “Where you are right now in the game is perfect. It’s just your self-doubting heart that needs to be fixed. You’ve got to trust me and yourself.” I had a sudden realization that he was right, and, from that moment on, I began to recognize my own efforts and progress quickly. It is always better to recognize each small victory and build on that in order to succeed instead of looking too far ahead or judging the past.
For my major and career, I know I will be able to use these experiences and qualities to help me succeed. And as a swim team member, I will be hard-working, enjoy the precious opportunity, and help create a positive atmosphere with my teammates and coaches.
