Attending a military academy will prepare me best for my future, serving the United States of America. The military academies offer exceptional and rigorous academics, develop leadership, and focus on the importance of service all in a military setting. Being part of something greater than myself has always been important to me, whether it has been on the soccer field, serving as a class officer, or being a servant leader in my church parish. I have developed self-discipline, communication skills, and work with diverse groups through my various leadership roles. The qualities of integrity, sense of responsibility, and respect are incredibly vital to who I am. Following in the footsteps of great leaders like George Patton, who exemplified perseverance while facing new experiences, I too am ready. My future goals include being successful in the classroom and the soccer field playing at the collegiate level. My teamwork, dedication, character, soccer IQ, and skill level earned me the opportunity to be a team captain on four different teams, was invited to try out for a local semi-professional team, and help students experiencing learning or behavioral disorders experience the game of soccer. Service has always been essential. Assisting others establishes and ensures your commitments endure and demonstrate dedication to a cause greater than yourself. I have received two awards for service, the William Parater Community Service Award and the Pope’s Christian Service Award, providing service to others over 100 and 500 hours respectively during a single academic year during high school. As I reminisce about my soccer journey, I remember tournaments, practices, wins, and losses. Yet, even more so, I recall those who coached me, demonstrated their support, who helped me rehabilitate following injuries, and those players I, in turn, was able to guide and motivate. Soccer taught me valuable lessons on both a macro and micro level, applicable in various situations. They include the importance of working as a team member, setting goals, effective communication, time management, honoring commitments, decision-making under pressure, sharing responsibility, learning through failure, and the importance of both practice and establishing priorities. Our nation’s military academies have established a level of excellence in education with a dedication to service, character, and quality athletic programs. The skills I have obtained have prepared me for the academic and physical rigor at a military academy. There will be challenges and times that test my fortitude; however, I have the skills to adapt and be successful. For example, accountability, achievement-oriented, valuing the learning process, understanding myself and not underestimating others, and maintaining a positive attitude. Again, when needing to persevere, I am reminded of George Patton, who pressed forward in the face of adversity and strategically sought ways to succeed. Patton listened to other's opinions, and once reaching a decision, he stood resolute and achieved greatness. My goal is to serve our nation with wisdom and integrity. My dreams and decisions have not taken lightly, and I feel a military academy is an optimal place for me to succeed.
