During the COVID pandemic, in 2019-2020 that is the time period I faced my biggest challenges. During COVID I stayed at home for over a year without going out, talking with my friends, and I did not go to school. Online Classes were challenging for me because it made it very difficult for me to ask questions and asking for help was not as easy as it used to be. COVID also affected me in a negative way because that is the time period when a lot of people including me were at their lowest point. However, after all, I was able to learn from that experience and to be prepared for situations when I need to do something different. I also learned that no matter how bad situations are, it will always be something good after you pass the bad time.
During my senior year of high school I was still recovering from the pandemic. I was able to find something again that I always liked: soccer. Since the age of four I was passionate with the sports world. I’ve played many sports during my childhood, but one in particular I liked more than the rest. I started playing soccer with my friends and my dream is to play with a competitive team. I played high school indoor soccer in my freshman year of high school. One year into the pandemic, my dream to play soccer was forgotten, replaced by surviving my academic courses. Beginning Senior year I started playing soccer again. I realized that I am a competitor, and being the captain of a varsity soccer team gave me a purpose after all the challenges I faced earlier. I learned new values which would have been helpful during my lowest point: to be part of a team, to be responsible in order to achieve my goals, and to be a leader everyone said that I could be. This helped me in my future school years because I learned values to overcome those challenges I’ve faced during my time at home. I learned to adapt to different ways to achieve my goals. I found a new motivation to go to school. I woke up every morning thinking about doing well in my classes to have a good GPA, so I could be able to play the next soccer game. The soccer team I was part of was the motivation I needed to use the values I learned after my lowest point of the pandemic.
After the pandemic was more stable, and after we were able to go back to school I learned from my mistakes and school was something I felt I could do. All the classes were still difficult, in particular the Advance Placements classes (AP classes) I was taking for the first time. AP classes were difficult but after online classes nothing seemed impossible or at least it seemed as something I was able to do. Being part of a team helped to move forwards in my life. After all these hard years of high school, I’m now prepared and motivated to go college where I’m going to apply all the values I learned during high school by being responsible with all my classes and my activities, I’m going to ask help and to find solutions when I need help or guidance, and finally I will become a leader to during and after my time on college.
