My name is Owen Sykes from the Eastside FC B05 ECNL-Dortch team in Issaquah (Seattle), Washington.
I am looking for an opportunity to play college soccer while pursuing a high level of academic study. My coach has given me feedback about my attitude and versatility. He likes my even temperament and noted that when the team isn't performing well I try and fix problems on the field rather than getting frustrated. He also likes my versatility since my main position is CDM but he can ask me to fill in at centerback, midfield or winger if a teammate gets injured as has happened a few times. The coach noted that I have a high soccer IQ and as a winger I was able to make runs and position myself correctly. I believe my attitude, work ethic and skills would allow me to be successful as a student athlete at the college level.
Prior to joining my current club Eastside FC in Seattle, I lived in Nagoya, Japan for 4 years where I played soccer for Grampus Miyoshi FC. Before this, I played soccer for many years in Montreal, Canada for Lakeshore FC Intercity and was selected for the Provincial Regional Development Program. These experiences have provided me with the opportunity to learn and understand several different playing styles and tactics, as well as develop an ability to adapt to a variety of coaching styles.
I attend Issaquah High School located just outside of Seattle. I speak English, Japanese and French. I have been taking primarily college preparatory classes and plan to take several AP classes with a focus on math and science. I will be graduating in 2023 and in college I intend to pursue a degree in Neuroscience.
