I love soccer. If I looked at other sports, my friends always called me back. Saying, “Soccer needs you!” So I stayed and I couldn’t be happier.
Family is everything. My dad lives out of state, so I had to grow up quickly and help my mom, in addition to being a student and an athlete. I am a big brother to twin sisters just 18 months younger. (I always help them more than they want me to.) My family has made me realize how much I love helping people: neighbors, friends, teammates, younger players in my club and school. In fact, my mom calls me the ‘Pied Piper’ of Norski Soccer Club, because I am always surrounded by the younger kids.
A quote I find amusing is "I might be small, but I am big on the inside". I was always the smallest player on my team. In fact in 7th grade, I had a coach who said I was too small for soccer. One thing you will learn about me is I never stand down to a challenge. So, I learned to play big and proved him wrong. Of course, growing eight inches from the end of fall season to our spring start didn’t hurt, either.
I did not make Varsity my freshman year in soccer. I was disappointed, but it was the best thing for me. Not only did it give me a goal to strive for, it also allowed me to be there for my whole freshman team. We grew together and improved more as a team than any of us could have separately. I love to play more than anything and it shows in the effort I bring with me every day on the field. I am a team player. I can play any position and will always play it to my best ability.
I hope to talk to you soon! Evan
