I am a soccer player that respects the game for the positive impact it has had on my life. Soccer has been a constant since I was young. It is a source of great enjoyment and a means of self-expression. Competitive soccer has helped mold me into the motivated and disciplined person I am today. Dedicated family members, friends, teachers, and coaches have all contributed to the knowledge and skills I have developed to become a confident and positive person both on and off the field.
Following in the footsteps of my parents and older sisters, I started running out on a soccer field at age 5. Growing up, I played as many sports as I could from golf, to basketball, to competitive swimming, flag football, and…soccer. I am a natural athlete and they were all a blast, but soccer has always been my favorite! My older sisters, who play soccer at Valparaiso University and golf at Grinnell College, were great role models and inspired me to train hard, crave competition, and keep schoolwork at the forefront. Their positive collegiate experiences have encouraged me to work harder at reaching my goals.
I have learned that intense practice, self-discipline, and dedication go a long way toward improvement and success. Sacrificing social time for practice, game travel, and my schoolwork is a necessity. I am a dedicated student and take great pride in the fact that I am improving and will only get better from here on out. In school, I pride myself in trying to get the best possible grades and challenging myself with honors/AP classes.
Throughout my “career” I have been lucky enough to face few serious obstacles. However, I sacrificed participating in other school sports and spending time with friends to become a better soccer player. I did not let this affect my motivation and have still found ways to stay well-rounded. Off the pitch you will find me enjoying the outdoors, working as a pharmacy technician, or volunteering. In the end, my experiences have taught me that I could meet new people and make friends outside the realm of school. I also learned to develop friendships without soccer, which has kept me connected with many different people
I am most proud of my club team’s State Cup Championship and being named my high school team’s MVP. During the season prior to the State Cup tournament, multiple players suffered season ending injuries. We challenged ourselves to never give up and overcome adversity. The win was an awesome team experience and accomplishment! On the soccer field, my strengths start with reliability, the ability to lead by example, and durability. My ball skills and touch are strong. I can dribble, pass, shoot, and maintain touch with both feet. I am a natural defender but am a well-rounded player. High school soccer has also allowed me to hone my offensive skills. I am coach able and will help my team in any role. I have been lucky to avoid injury so far because I believe I push myself to be in good physical condition year-round. I will always pride myself on being a great teammate and having high moral character. I am looking forward to a collegiate soccer opportunity, succeeding at new academic/athletic challenges, supporting new teammates, and learning the game from other coaches.
