Hi, my name is Jack Davis. I began to learn how to swim for safety purposes when I was four and joined a summer league team when I was five. From the ages of 4-12 not only did I swim on summer league teams and eventually a year round team, but I also played other sports including soccer, basketball, and baseball. I played baseball for 8 years and at the peak of my baseball career, my team went to the Little League Intermediate World Series and won the United States championship and came in second for the International title. I was a key component to my team's success in this tournament by pitching 6 of 7 innings of our elimination game against the Central US Champion team and guiding my team to a win and also being tied for the third best batting average on my team for the tournament. Playing at this high of a level in an important position has taught me how to deal with high pressure situations and how to keep calm and focused during them. While playing at a high level of baseball, I also continued to excel in my year round swimming, earning Junior Olympic and Far Western time standards and making finals at both of these meets. Entering my Freshman year of high school, I was presented with the decision of choosing between baseball and swimming since they are in the same high school spring season, I ended up deciding to give up baseball to continue to train for swimming with the overall goal of swimming in college. I also decided to try out for the water polo team at my high school. I made the varsity team and was eventually regularly starting games and scoring goals, all as a Freshman.
My exposure to these sports has helped me develop into a very well rounded athlete. Playing multiple sports at once has taught me time management skills and has allowed me to develop focus as well as a good work ethic. I also value academics just as much and if not more than athletics. During my freshman and sophomore year I took all of the honors classes that were available to me and I currently have a GPA of 4.4. My academic goals for high school are to graduate with a high GPA and test scores to hopefully get into good universities and colleges in California or close by. In swimming I hope to compete at the highest level that is suitable for me in college and pursue my academic goals at a college that is the best fit for me. I want to be in a positive team environment where I can contribute to the success of a team, be myself, and most importantly have fun.
