I became interested in swimming around the age of 10. Prior to swimming I played tennis and was in Karate. I have always loved sports and watched my older brother compete in swimming and my sister in gymnastics. Through swimming I have become more confident in myself and my abilities. Two years ago I realized that I enjoyed long distance swimming and was actually more relaxed swimming those distances than sprinting. This surprised my coaches and my family and it gave me something that set me apart from my brother who was a sprinter. Through swimming I have learned that if I set my mind to do something I can achieve it.
Outside of swimming I spend my time in Scouts, playing the piano and looking after animals for various neighbors. I am almost at the 3rd highest ranking in Scouts and love to spend time outdoors camping. As far as my academic goals are concerned, I want to pursue a career in Marine Biology. One of the things that fascinates me is the fact that a vast amount of the ocean is still unexplored. One of my unique characteristics that sets me apart from my peers is my ability to stay up beat and positive. I have been told that I am empathetic and I am concerned about those around me.
