Being part of the Greenwich High School Swim Team has been the highlight of my high school career. Although this year’s season was cut short due to the pandemic, our team had an undefeated dual meet season and won our 49th FCIAC County title in 50 seasons. I finaled in two individual events. We were primed to capture our seventh straight Class LL and State Open’s trophy.
I remember last year’s amazing CIAC State Championship victory at Yale University, jumping into the pool to celebrate with our coach! I realized in that moment, being part of a group, working hard all season and winning as a team made me a better person in and out of the water. It was also rewarding to produce some personal best times.
Balancing academics and my competitive swim schedule has taught me discipline. As a student athlete, I set goals and work hard to achieve them. As a teammate and leader, I support and set a positive example for underclassmen.
Accepting the disappointment of a season cut short and the times I was set to achieve during our state championship run is tough, but it has made me even more determined to remain focused on my goals. I believe I have the talent and grit to compete at the college level. As a top-scoring athlete, I know I have what it takes to be a leader on your team.
