Zach Hannon '13 Recruiting Profile

I have been a competitive swimmer since I learned to swim at a local summer swim & Tennis club at the age of 7. I currently swim for the USA Swimming affiliated East Hartford YMCA (LEHY) for both long course and short course. I also swim for the Winham/RHAM high school co-op team in the winter months. I swam varsity my Freshmen, Sophmore and Junior years. I was team MVP my Sophmore and Junior years. Last year, I was able to make All State in the 100y Fly. I am mostly a sprinter but can also do mid-distance events when called upon to help the team. Currently, I have a 3.86 GPA and was ranked in the top 25% of my high school class. Honestly, I probably could have ranked higher but I chose to take mostly honors and AP classes to better prepare myself for the rigors of college. I am looking for a college or university that challenges me both academically and athletically. I am leaning towards pursuing a major in marketing/business but have not made a final decisoin yet. Ideally, I want to swim at a college where I can make a big contribution but also one that will help me reach my full potential. LIke my father who was a 6'4" elite collegiate rower, I am a "late bloomer." I am currently 6 feet tall and 155 lbs and still growing. Prior to my growth spurt, I was forced to use hard work and technical skills to beat my bigger competitors. Regardless of which college I attend and graduate from, I will work hard to achieve my academic goals, as well as be the best student athlete. I also enjoy working with children both in my role as a swim instructor and as a Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentor. I would like to continue helping younger kids during my tenure at college.
