I fell in love with track in 7th grade, specifically distance running. I was captain of my 8th grade track team, but played soccer in the fall, thus not being able to participate in cross country running. By my sophomore year of high school, I decided to focus on what I passionately cared about most so I stopped playing soccer for my high school mid season and joined the cross country team. Due to the COVID pandemic, my sophomore outdoor track season never happened, my junior year of cross country was also cut almost entirely, and my indoor track season was void of any official meets. I have found myself trying to “catch up” my running performance to where I wanted to be. I worked hard my junior track season (co-captain & MVP) to make up for my missed sophomore year, breaking my school‘s 30 year old mile record, placing 4th at Class MM states, and placing in top 15 at the state Open. Now a senior, I am the captain of my cross country team and trying again to make up for my missed Junior year XC season. Yesterday, I ran a 16:25 (5.000 meters) in our 2nd meet of the season. I am excited to see how much I can improve my times during a much more normal season. I look forward to track in the winter and spring, and am thankful everyday for the sport of running.
