I feel like I am a very good candidate for being part of a collegiate swim team. I have been competitively swimming my entire life and I would love to continue this sport in college. I have done great in school, my entire life, and throughout high school I have had close to straight A's.
I started swimming competitively when I was about 8 or 9 and loved it. It has been a huge part of my life. When I was 12 years old I made my first Age Group Championships in the 50 free, 50 breast, and 100 free. I have qualified for every season's Age Group Championship since then. Also when I was 12 years old, I had one of the top 16 times in CT for the 100 breast in my age group. This past long course I also qualified for top 16 in CT out of my age group in 6 events. I did it in the 100 free, 50 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM, and the 100 fly. In my high school swim seasons I qualified for state championships my first 2 years and went to state finals my freshman year. I couldn't go my sophomore year because states were canceled due to the Corona Virus. My sophomore year the 400 free relay team that I was on got a medal for being 6th at SWC's. I also do other sports on the side like cross-country and triathlon. My junior year was my first year doing cross-country. I made varsity being 3rd on the team and went to SWC's. Triathlons were something I started doing when I was 12. I trained at a summer camp at the YMCA and came in first place in that race. This sparked the love of this sport and I went on to train and win another triathlon the summer after my freshman year. I definitely feel like I have the athletic capability to be a part of a college swim team. Athletics have always been one of the main parts of my life.
Moving on to academics, I have always done well and have been in advanced classes. Keeping my grades at the A range, no matter how challenging the classes are, has always been a goal of mine. I am in National Honor Society and have received Honor Roll or High Honor Roll every year. Last year at SWC's I also received the All-Conference Academic Team award. Then for club swim I received the Scholar Athlete award at the CT Swim yearly banquet. These awards and my grades definitely show that I can handle being in school and being on a varsity swim team when I'm in college.
Community service and paying it forward shows a lot about my character. Teaching younger kids on my club team for 2 years, without pay, has been a very rewarding way of getting community service. I was also a coach/counselor at a triathlon summer camp for 2 years called Race4Chase. At that camp I helped kids learn/perfect each leg of a triathlon. Another form of community service that I have done is being a counselor at my church's Vacation Bible School. These community service opportunities, as well as being captain of my high school swim team this year, gives a good representation of my leadership skills throughout my life.
I am looking forward to gaining my college education while having the opportunity to swim on a varsity team. Since swimming and academics have always been important to me I am confident that I will bring a lot of strength and determination to the team and college I attend.
