Qualifying for states my junior year meant a lot to me. However it did not come easy. It took me many hours of work which I spent gladly improving on myself. My freshman year is the year I learned how to swim. I wasn’t great obviously but I knew that if I worked for it I could. Eventually, with all the long hours and multiple practices, I was able to achieve my goal. What this experience showed me is that if you are truly dedicated to becoming great, there is nothing stopping you from achieving greatness. I am ready for the next goal I have in swimming and I look forward to all the challenges that are thrown my way.
I am a good candidate for college teams because of the potential I have to continue to improve my swimming performance. Swimming is not a one in done hobby that I stumbled upon. I have incorporated it into my everyday schedule and it is now part of my life, it is something I love to do, it is my passion. Improving is a way of life, not just a random phenomenon, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to improve.
My goals for collegiate swimming would be continue to improve my skills in swimming and take it as far as I can go and improve my ability to its highest potential. I also want to further hone my natural ability to be a leader and improve my interaction skills. I was awarded the captain position on my team this year which represents my natural ability to lead and communicate positively with others.
What makes me different from the other recruits is my work ethic and dedication. I believe hard work trumps all and if you want to be something, you need to work for it. I find it fun to work for a goal. You can’t just work hard, you have to love what you are doing to get the most out of it. Swimming means so much to me, I want to achieve greatness and I know I can. The only way to do it is to put in the work.
