Ever since a young age, I have been an excellent swimmer. As I grew, it became obvious to my coaches that I would one day be an amazing competitive athlete. I have always made goals for myself and worked with all of my heart to achieve them. There was no question that I wanted to carry my talent to the collegiate level. I have always known that I was up for the challenge and that I would most definitely excel. Being the hardworking person that I am and have always been, I know that it is the right path for me.
Being a well-rounded individual is important to me. With that being said, I always work to maintain a 4.0 GPA and challenge myself with higher-level classes. My high school honored my efforts, with the Thakkar award to show how productive and well balanced I am. I am a member of the National Honor Society at my high school and I take part in many extracurricular activities to help the community and those in it. For example, I volunteered at Camp Joy, a faith-based summer camp for children and adults with disabilities. There, I learned the importance of accepting others’ differences and to always put others before myself. I believe this experience and skill set puts me above other people in my position.
Swimming lights a fire in my heart like nothing else. I am a shy and quiet person on land, but a fierce competitor in the water. It excites me when I break records and beat my time. If anything, swim has taught me that I am more competitive and confident than I thought and that I don't like to lose. At my high school, I have all of the records but one, the 100 breaststroke. I also hold many of the county records. I have competed at state for 3 years now; and have won many awards from my team, whom I have been captain of for the past two years. One of the awards being the MVP award which I have received every year. In addition to receiving the Team Choice Award for two years running, I was also nominated as All Highlands Athlete of the year for Highlands County in 2019. Being part of a team is something I couldn't live without. Over the four years that I have been on the high school team they have become my family. They have taught me to be humble even when it seems like I have it all.
When I am in the pool I give my all. I know that hard work pays off and that I will always have to work to be on top, and that further motivates me. Anytime I am at practice I work to the best of my ability because I know that if I don't, I am wasting my time and that keeps me up at night. I aspire to always be better than I was before and my strong work ethic and passion for excellence will help me achieve that.
