My ideal college should be in a location which has a small town feel but with a vibrant, rich and distinct culture surrounding it. I am very interested in a 5-year joint BS / MS program that award both Bachelors and Masters Degree within 5 years of study. My area of study is Engineering, with possibly a minor in a foreign language which I think would open opportunities for me to work abroad. I regard myself as being pretty adventurous and outdoorsy as I was fortunate to grow up mountain hiking in the Italian Alps and sailing in the Caribbean. Not only have I been an avid competitive swimmer, but I have also completed RYA Level 2 sailing and earned over 300 sailing hours with vessels such as the Optimist, J-22, Laser and my father's 34 feet Columbia mono hull. I believe I can be a valuable part of any swim team mostly due to my proficient breaststroke and freestyle which has helped me with numerous relay and IM events in which breaststroke is normally the slower part of the event.
I believe myself to have a strong character and don't get pushed around easily but I am always respectful, sincere, and disciplined in following instructions. I enjoy being part of a team. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia but grew up in Jamaica. In 2019 I moved to South Florida for High School. In Jamaica, I attended the Heinz Simonitsch School in Montego Bay for my elementary and middle school education. Currently, I attend the Somerset Academy High School at Chapel Trail in Pembroke Pines, Florida and I am in 11th grade. I speak 2 languages fluently (Italian and English) and am becoming proficient in Spanish.
I have been swimming competitively since I was about 8 years old - my strength being the breaststroke. In 2018, I qualified to represent Jamaica at the Caribbean Goodwill Games held in Suriname, however I could not attend and I was listed as an alternate. In 2021 I qualified for the FGC SCY Junior Olympics held in April in Coral Springs, FL and in June I qualified for the FGC LCM Junior Olympics held in Stuart, FL for the 100m and 200m breaststroke. As part of my school's varsity swim team I qualified for the State Championships Class 2A that was held in Stuart later in November.
Academically, I have consistently held an unweighted GPA over 3.8 and a weighted of 5.0. Along with this, I am pursuing both my AP and AICE(Advanced International Certificate of Education) certificates in high school. At 15 years old I am currently in 11th grade and hope to graduate with the class of 2023. I am excited to be a part of the National Science Honor Society and the Italian Honor Society at my school. Due to outstanding grades from school in Jamaica and my aptitude for learning I was able to begin high school at 12 years old. I hope this momentum will propel me in the right direction to realize my goals of contributing meaningfully to society.
