My name is Brandon Lin, and I am a 15-year-old swimmer from Kauai, Hawaii. I am writing to express my deep passion for swimming and my desire to pursue this sport at the collegiate level. Swimming has been an integral part of my life, and it has helped shape me into the person I am today.
Through swimming, I have learned how to set goals, commit to them, and try my best at all times. I have also learned how to be a leader and a teammate, and most importantly, how to persevere through failure. Swimming has taught me that success is not just about winning but also about learning from setbacks and growing as an athlete and as a person.
I became interested in swimming when I was 8 years old. At first, it was just for fun, but when I was put on a relay team at a championship meet, I realized that swimming was more than just a hobby. Since then, I have been dedicated to improving my skills and achieving my goals in the sport.
One of the things that sets me apart as a swimmer is that I approach each race differently. I have developed my own unique style and technique that allows me to perform at my best. Swimming has also helped me become more social and outgoing, as I have had to meet new people and make new friends through the sport.
My academic goals for high school are to maintain a high GPA and attend a college that is a good fit for me both academically and athletically. Currently, I am interested in engineering as a potential career path.
I have faced many obstacles on my journey as a swimmer, including hitting plateaus where I felt like I couldn’t improve any further. However, through hard work and dedication, I have been able to overcome these challenges and continue to grow as an athlete.
As someone who comes from an island with only one swim team, finding motivation and good competition has always been a struggle. However, I am determined to continue my journey as a collegiate swimmer while being a leader and a team player both in and out of the pool.
