When I was nine years old, I went to one of my cousins swim meets in Indiana. I found the sport interesting and joined a local club team a few months later. I instantly fell in love with the sport. For the first several years of my swimming career, I found giving full focus to the sport to be a struggle because I cycled through three instruments and running cross country. I eventually dropped the instruments and running to shift my focus to just school and swimming. Time management has proven to be my biggest obstacle in both my academic and athletic careers. Thus, outside of swimming and school I only participate in a select few extracurriculars that still allow me to focus on swimming and school.
Swimming has taught me the importance of being resilient and not giving up. Before, if I didn't perform well, I would hit a wall. Within the past year, however, I have caught myself and not continued this pattern. I have the goal of graduating high school in a position that gives me many college options. I know to achieve this I cannot allow setbacks to take my focus, and that I need to fully apply myself in both school and swimming.
