Ryan Bates Freshm...Personal Statement
I am interested in swimming in college. I have been competing competitively with the Joliet Blue Tides since I was 10 years old, and have continued my commitment to this sport. Recently, I have joined the Joliet Jets YMCA team and I am gaining a better understanding of technique and strength training.
I have competed on the regional, state and Central Zones levels for age group swim. I was a Speedo Sectional qualifier in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 freestyle but unfortunately COVID cancelled this meet. I have also swam at Illinois state open water and Central Zones open water meets. I finally achieved my first Futures cut this summer in the 100 freestyle. I strive to continue to understand technique and feel I show my coaches dedication and effort at practice. I want to work next to teammates that share the same passion for swim as I do.
At Joliet West,, I now have 3 individual school swim records in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle, and I am a member of the school record in the 4x100 relay.
I have a strong work ethic. I want to be a part of a team that I can grow and learn. I also want to grow as a person. I am hoping to find that fit in a program that I can connect with a mentor in a coach.
