I played four different sports in grade school and middle school (Basketball, Track, Soccer, and Cross Country) before taking up swimming in High School year-round. My dad got me into swimming at a young age, but then I picked it back up in middle school because I wanted to follow in my dad's footsteps as a college athlete when he swam at Denison University. His influence drives my passion for the sport and nothing would make me more accomplished than to make him proud by receiving a scholarship to a school with high academic standards.
My high school team got second place in the Kansas state championship three years in a row, which isn't the most appealing thing in my high school career so far. Getting beat by our rival school (and losing by only 2.5 points) sorrowed my teammates and me. However, those three years have shaped me as an athlete and set a fire inside of me to excel all expectations in the upcoming years. My years on the swim team have taught me to form a brotherhood, work as a team, and have team goals alongside individual ones. My individual goals include winning the 200 free at state, going All-American again, breaking the 50 free record on my club team (20.91), and, of course, winning state all in all. I believe if I accomplish these goals, I would become valuable to a college team.
