Personal Statement

My name is Jacob Evans and I have two years of competitive swimming under my cap. Pursuing the life of an academically inclined swimmer is the most challenging thing I’ve had to endure physically, mentally and spiritually. From the late-night practices and 3:00 am study sessions, to the hip strains and illnesses, I have faced adversity time and time again throughout my short and young career. This kind of lifestyle has been relentless at teaching me the importance of discipline, hard work, work-life balance, believing in myself and putting my trust in God. Because of the choices I made, as well as my natural talent to adapt, I have been fortunate to make it into the history books at my high school and succeed in my academic endeavors at the highest level.

My collegiate goals are to train and compete until I graduate with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. I want to be a part of a program that can become NCAA Champions through the strength of the trust in the process and in each other. I aspire to make deep and rich relationships with my teammates and coaches on a personal, social and academic level. My greatest aspiration would be to stay within the swimming community for the rest of my life and spread the word about the sport of swimming. I would have never become the person I am today had I not made the choice to follow this path. I am extremely grateful to what this sport has taught me, and I plan on continuing to put my all into it in the future.

  • The Technique Track is desigend for individual and group instruction in fundamental and advanced stroke skills, starts, and turn techniques. A daily optional training workout is available in addition to the three instructional/practice sessions daily. Yardage in this one hour workout varies from 3,000-3,600 yards depending upon ability. This track is a skill acquisition curriculum which begins with basic body balance and progresses to swimming with maximum efficiency (i.e. fewest number of strokes per length). This is the foundation for all fast swimming. Starts, turns, functional dryland training, nutrition education, team building, True Colors assessment, Mindset education, and mental training are part of this comprehensive curriculum. Swimmers are filmed dailly and their HD video is viewed and critiqued in written form. Swimmers are encouraged to use their phone cameras to video their strokes and the coach's assessment. This track is designed for: the younger swimmer (12 & under) in need of better technical skills; the older swimmer who is relatively new to the sport; high school swimmers who do not train year-round; and the skilled swimmer who needs a week of technical fine tuning without the added stress of intensive workouts.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
