My name is Jacob Evans and I have two years of competitive swimming under my cap. Pursuing the life of an academically inclined swimmer is the most challenging thing I’ve had to endure physically, mentally and spiritually. From the late-night practices and 3:00 am study sessions, to the hip strains and illnesses, I have faced adversity time and time again throughout my short and young career. This kind of lifestyle has been relentless at teaching me the importance of discipline, hard work, work-life balance, believing in myself and putting my trust in God. Because of the choices I made, as well as my natural talent to adapt, I have been fortunate to make it into the history books at my high school and succeed in my academic endeavors at the highest level.
My collegiate goals are to train and compete until I graduate with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. I want to be a part of a program that can become NCAA Champions through the strength of the trust in the process and in each other. I aspire to make deep and rich relationships with my teammates and coaches on a personal, social and academic level. My greatest aspiration would be to stay within the swimming community for the rest of my life and spread the word about the sport of swimming. I would have never become the person I am today had I not made the choice to follow this path. I am extremely grateful to what this sport has taught me, and I plan on continuing to put my all into it in the future.
