I genuinely believe in a balance between academic rigor and achieving a high level in sports. Both academics and swimming develop mutual characteristics in student-athletes: determination, patience, and enthusiasm. I have been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to be placed into a prestigious academic environment where I can work hard, yield the rewards of such hard work, and nurture the aforementioned characteristics. I hope to find a college that continues to challenge me academically yet at the same time bring me challenges in my swimming career. Although I have found success in my academic and sports career thus far, I never let success get to my head, I always remind myself to stay down to earth and grounded. I may have just swum a great race and achieved a new personal best, but I would still be critical of my performance and evaluate what aspects of the race could have been improved and how I would try to achieve those improvements in practice, never settling for "enough".
