My name is Ryan McFadden and I am a Junior at Beverly High School in Beverly, Massachusetts. I swim for the varsity swim team at the high school as well as for the club team, The North Shore YMCA Sharks. I have been swimming since I was very little and have been a competitive swimmer since I was 6 yrs. Old. My parents got me involved in swimming to help me with my asthma and the sport has grown to be something that I love. I had a lot of success in swimming when I was very young and still have the pool record for the 25 fly for 8 and under boys at the Beverly YMCA.
As I got older and other boys matured faster than me, I struggled to keep up and went through a period of doubt. I worked very hard to stay competitive with the bigger kids and despite them being bigger than me, I still kept up. I really tried hard in practice and worked on my land training with my father. Once I began to grow, I began to have faster times and then began beating the boys that had been beating me. I felt proud that my hard work and dedication paid off. As a sophomore on the varsity swim team, my second year on the team, I won all but two of my races and was named to the All Star Team by the Salem News, a local paper. I recently was named a Top Ten Swimmer by New England Swimming as I was the 6th fastest swimmer in New England in the 1000 SCY Freestyle (10:12:50).
I plan to go to college and study marketing and hope to swim for a Division One team. Getting a college degree is important to me. I want to be an entrepreneur and start a business and be a successful social media influencer. Studying marketing will give me the knowledge to help me achieve my goals. Swimming in college at the Division One level is also a goal for me. I love the competition; the comradery of being part of a team and the mental toughness the sport gives me. I know I can be a contributor to whatever team I am on. I am a strong leader, a dedicated teammate and one that has a good sense of humor that helps my teammates (and coaches) stay upbeat and positive during the pressure of big meets.
Thank you for considering me to be part of your team. I am confident that I would be an asset to your team.
