My name is Ben Turner and I am a Junior at Oliver Ames High School, where I have been a member of the Swim & Dive team for 3 years. I am an honors student with a 4.28 GPA. After my freshman year on the high school team, I wanted to hone my skills and joined my current club swim team, Crimson Aquatics. I have grown as a leader on my high school team, as heading into my senior year I will have been captain for two years. Although I have started to achieve various goals throughout my high school swimming career, such as qualifying and placing in the state championship meet, I am motivated to progress further in my swimming abilities and reach my fullest potential as my times continue to drop.
One of my goals for swimming in college is expanding upon the qualities I've learned throughout my high school swimming career, such as determination, perseverance, and leadership. My freshman year, I was able to demonstrate my swimming abilities and become a key contributor to my team with regards to acquiring points and aiding in victories. In my sophomore year, I grew to establish myself as a vital component to my team’s success, as my club training refined and enhanced my swimming abilities. As a junior, I was elected captain. Though our numbers on the boys team had dwindled, I learned the importance of supportive leadership as our girls team achieved great success. I also was able to recognize the importance of mentoring younger swimmers on the boys team while simultaneously striving for individual success. Despite swimming year-round, my passion for the sport has only grown, and I look forward to continuing my educational and athletic career in college.
