My name is Matt Thompson. I’m currently an 12th grader living with my family in East Lansing, Michigan. I have an older sister that attends UMich and she has been an inspiration to excel at school and maintain high goals and how to plan to accomplish them.
I play on varsity for my school in both Water Polo and Swimming. In polo, I have enjoyed progressing from conference Rookie of the Year as a sophmore to being named to the USA All-Area 1st Team this past season.
In Swim, this past season I have enjoyed seeing my PBs steadily improved and ended with three top-11 finishes at our CAAC conference championships. I started swimming only three years ago and feel my technical and athletic development are just beginning to come together so I am looking forward to another level or two of improvement.
One of the great things about aquatics are the bonding experiences we have as a team along with the bus rides and road trips for meets and tournaments. They are always memorable and fun. Another good memory is that I had the opportunity to attend a swim camp taught by olympic gold medalist Nick Thoman. I learned a lot about his methods of preparing to succeed and being as technically sound as possible.
Outside of the pool, I also play both alto and tenor saxophone in my school’s Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and am the section leader in the Marching Band.
In my spare time, I go to the gym on most days and I am a video gamer. I can connect with friends from all over to complete various missions and assignments. I also am a Red Cross certified lifeguard and worked last season at our community aquatic center.
Thank you.
