Personal Statement

I love to swim!  I have since I was two years old and attended my first swim class at our local YMCA.  We live on a lake in northern Minnesota and I would love to jump off our pontoon boat and race it back to our dock.  I have been a member of our Itasca Sea Turtles Swim program, through our local YMCA in Grand Rapids, since I was 6 years old.  Each year I have qualified for the Midwest Regional Swim Meet, held at the U of M Aquatic Center.

As I am writing this personal statement I am about to enter my Junior year of high school.  I will be in the graduating class of 2020.  My best times to date are: 100 yard butterfly at 56.94 and the 100 yard breast at 1:05.73.  I'm also a pretty good free style swimmer in relays.  These times were accomplished at our 2018 MSHSL Boys Section 6A Meet on February 22, in Hibbing, MN.  This Meet is listed on MeetMobile.  I have been swimming on our Varsity Team since I was in 8th grade.  Each summer I do what ever swim classes are offered here in Grand Rapids, MN and have attended Swim Camps at Gustavus Adolphus College, in Saint Peter, MN for three years.  I have started to work with a personal trainer and a nutritionist, both at our YMCA, to help me get in top physical shape to drop more time on my swim events this coming season.

What I love about swimming is how you compete against yourself - always trying to beat your best time.  Although I do enjoy beating the guy swimming in the next lane too.   It's an individual sport and a team sport all in one.  I look forward to jumping into the pool for practice and for meets.  I even enjoy the volunteer coaching I have done with some of our younger swimmers on our Sea Turtle Team.

As I start to look towards my collegiate goals, I would like to continue my swimming goals.  Continuing to work hard and drop time.  I'm a midwestern boy at heart, I work hard, I'm easy to get along with and a good student academically (although I know I can do better there also).  My hope is that you will find me to be a good addition to your swim program.  I would be interested in setting up an appointment to come and visit your campus and pool.  Thank you for your time.
