Three values that have helped shape who I am are: willingness to learn, hard work, and teamwork. When I was 7 years old, a woman named Joanne Macher taught me how to swim in a small wood-heated pool. Since then I have grown to love the sport, and everything that comes with it. I love the relationships with my teammates and coaches, as well as the positive atmosphere where everybody pushes each other to work harder at each practice, and cheers each other on at meets.
At first, it was the interactions with teammates that drove me to wake up and go to practice. However, I had a good coach named MaryAnn who drove me to take it to the next level and really start pushing myself. She helped me greatly improve my stroke and drop a lot of time. I then moved up and had a new coach, Coach Gary Galbraith, who taught me how to compete in practice and in races. He taught me how to race races smart with strategy, and how to take control of my brain and keep pushing myself through any negative thoughts or pressure. Through this I grew in my relationships with my teammates as well. Competing against each other and pushing each other in practice led to friendships where we push each other to race and work hard at every practice and meet. This led to a positive and great team atmosphere, where everyone can improve and be the best swimmer they can be.
