Personal Statement

I am a driven, coachable junior committed to swimming in college.  I am a bit unique in my swimming journey because I have spent most of my life playing soccer in the goalkeeper position while swimming on some summer swim teams.  In my sophomore year, I decided to join my high school swim team and realized how much I enjoy and excelled in the sport.  As a result, I was quickly inspired to pursue swimming in college.

During the 23-24 swim season, I am working hard to meet my goals.  Please see my most up-to-date meets at times at https://highschoolsports.nj.com/player/kyle-kachoogian/boysswimming/season/2023-2024.

While on the team tin the 22-23 school year, I swam the 100 Fly, 200 IM, 200 FR, 200 MR and 400 MR.  I consistently improved my times throughout the season. I was awarded Swimmer of the Meet for our Jan 24th meet against our crosstown rivals when I made strides to catch up to our opponents during a relay which helped bring our team to victory.  I was awarded the varsity team "Rising Star Award" for the 22-23 season by my coaches because of the dedication I showed to the sport and for improving my times significantly and consistently throughout the season.

I persue swimming during the off season through training at a gym, including swimming regularly at the gym pool.  Additionally, I am continuing to play soccer to remain in top condition.  I was named the JV Soccer Team Defensive Player of the Year for the Fall 2022 season for my high school.

Beyond athletics, I am dedicated to my academic pursuits as well.   I am a student of the BTHS STEM Academy.  This accelerated and enriched program focuses on providing STEM skills needed to compete in a demanding global economy. As a STEM Academy student, I engage in a focused curriculum designed to develop strong skills in the STEM field. I am excelling in the program and currently maintain a 98.41 weighted GPA. My team recently won first place at the district wide STEAM Tank Challenge.  I was recognized as my high school's Student of the Month in April of 2022.

Though I am undecided about a major while in college at this point, I am certain I will focus in the STEM field.  I am seeking a college experience that will provide a strong team atmosphere and allow me to pursue my academic goals while providing an opportunity to challenge myself in the pool.  I look forward to hearing more about your swim program and college.
