After suffering a concussion from playing soccer, I began my swimming career at the age of 10 during the summer following my recovery. At first, I detested the brutal morning sessions and the demanding schedules. However, through trial and toil, I found success and my times began steadily dropping through every meet. Swimming was not just an extra hobby in my life that I enjoyed doing, it became my predominant focus and I found myself aspiring to become better and better. The sport has positively changed my life and I have been fortunate to have outstanding coaches and teammates by my side throughout the years. Not only have I learned to work through frustration, but I have been able to develop essential life skills such as discipline, leadership, teamwork, and mental toughness as a result of swimming.
As I have grown older and more mature I realized that being able to balance both academics and athletics should be a priority. Utilizing what I have learned from my swimming experience I have been able to achieve this despite goal. I strive not only to be athletically and academically successful but also to be sufficient in anything that I do, whether that is through volunteering, helping others, or even being a better brother and son.
I realize swimming in college is a privilege and goal few get to experience.I believe I stand out as a good candidate for any team due to my high standards and constant goals to find ways to improve myself both physically and mentally. Though I am confident in my own abilites I am aware of my weaknesses and am always open to learning from those more expereinced than myself. Most importantly I look foward to contributing to my team in any way possible, whether that be through competing in the pool or cheering from the sidelines.
