I’d like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself. My name is Sean Simms and I am currently sixteen years old and a Junior at Arthur P. Schalick High School in Pittsgrove, New Jersey. I am a competitive swimmer and an honors student. I consistently work hard to receive straight A's and I accomplished this academic goal each year, and am first in my class out of 110. My goal for high school is to do the best I can in all of my subjects and be the most outstanding student-athlete I can be, both in the classroom and in the pool. I am currently holding a 5.0 GPA and was recently awarded the USA Swimming All American award.
Arthur P. Schalick High School gives every opportunity to its students to do the best they can. They offer a wide range of clubs and activities, which I plan on being involved in throughout my time there. In middle school, I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and I intend on being part of National Honor Society in my junior year in high school. As part of NHS, I will be serving my community by showing outstanding character and leadership. In preparation for becoming a member in this outstanding organization, I have already taken steps to show I want to be part of NHS. I am part of a club called ”Interact Club”, where students like myself volunteer in events to serve the local community. Being part of this club will aide in my goal to be inducted into the National Honor Society.
In addition to the academics I have to offer a college, I also am a full time competitive swimmer. I swim for “Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club” under the coaching of Ryan Sprang. I swim on the most selective of groups that my swim club has to offer. I train very hard six days a week and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I have practice at 5 A.M. before school (doubles those three days). I make a conscious effort to attend every practice offered and my dedication in the pool has shown in my results. Some highlights of my career so far was during the summer of 2016, where I competed at Franklin and Marshall College at Midlantic Junior Olympics. During this meet, I won the high point award for my age group, 11-12 boys, and my 1500m freestyle time ranked me third in the country and my 800m freestyle ranked me second in the country according to USA Swimming! In addition, the summer Long Course season of 2018 brought me two more nationally ranked places. I finished my season as a 14-year-old, eighth in the country for the 800m freestyle and ninth in the 1500m freestyle. In addition, to being a great distance swimmer, I also perform very well in the 200m backstroke, and 400m and 500y freestyle. I believe that my commitment to the sport has given me the results I have received and now my long term goals are even greater. I strive each and every day to reach those goals through my work ethic and dedication to this great sport.
I have several long term goals that include both academics and swimming. My main academic goal is to receive the honor of being in the top five in my high school class with a GPA over 4.0. I am currently taking all honors classes and eventually will enroll in AP classes as soon as they are available. I also plan on swimming for my high school team for all four years and I have a goal to try to break every school record possible. My major long term goal for swimming is to attend the 2020 Olympic Trials and be able to represent my talent in the distance freestyle and possibly backstroke in front of many great swimmers and athletes.
I realize that I have very high aspirations and big goals, however as I progress through high school and work towards my goals, I will continue to train very hard and with my passion and commitment, I believe that I will one day reach these goals.
