I can't remember my life without swimming. I took my first "swim" in the ocean on the Jersey Shore before I could walk, had my first official swim lesson at the age of three, and I haven't spent much time out of the pool since then. I have been swimming competitively since I was 10 years old. When I first started, I didn't swim the fastest (or even have the confidence to dive off the blocks), but I soon realized that the amount of effort I put in directly correlated to my success. So, I worked really hard and the harder I worked, the more I was able to achieve the goals I set for myself. My drive and tenacity has propelled me forward throughout my years of swimming and has helped me to earn the award for "Most Dedicated Swimmer" on my club team and the "Coaches' Award" for dedication and leadership on my high school team, where I was also voted captain my junior and senior years. I want to continue my swimming career in college because swimming has been such an important part of my life that I don't feel that my college experience would be complete without it. I want to continue to push myself academically and athletically, as I have since I was in elementary school, and the challenge of balancing swimming at the college level with completing rigorous coursework is an endeavor I look forward to pursuing.
