Dear Coaches,
My name is Dash Turner-Bonner. I am a 16-year-old junior. I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I attend the New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA). I am a classical and jazz pianist. I am also a competitive swimmer of 14 years. My GPA is 3.4. I am taking the SAT June 5, 2021. I also hold down job as a lifeguard and busboy. I am 6’1 and 16o lbs. According to my physician's predictions, I am supposed to grow to 6’5. I am also proud to be a Black swimmer and provide diversity to the sport I love.
I began my swim career in Sacramento, California on Rio Rapids and Arden Hills DART teams. My parents retired and relocated our family to my father’s birthplace of Santa Fe so that I could train at 7,200 elevation and advance my swim career. I swam for the Santa Fe Aquatics the first two years after relocating. I am currently swimming for Santa Fe High and Northern Aquatics Swim Club. When we moved to Santa Fe, I competed that first summer in the New Mexico State Champs when I earned first place in almost every event I swam. I realized that summer how fast I swim and what I am capable of swimming.
I am primarily a sprinter. I swim the SC 50 Free in :22.63 https://youtu.be/UaGTJ10UA5E and the SC 100 Free in :50.01 https://youtu.be/UaGTJ10UA5E. My goal this summer is to swim the 50 Free in :21 and the 100 Free in :49. I can swim other strokes, but in the last two years my focus has been on freestyle sprints. I am capable of swimming faster and other strokes and kicks, but I need proper coaching and mentoring for which I am expecting to receive from the university that I sign on with. I am looking for a full scholarship so that I can pursue a mechanical engineering degree while competing in swimming and trying out for the U.S.A. Olympic Swim Team. I am looking for a university that has academic and physical training support for college athletes with an Olympic liaison support team for aspiring Olympic athletes.
During COVID, all our pools were shuttered. I stayed in shape with a Vasa Trainer, strength training, and biking. When the COVID restrictions loosened up, I reentered the pool as many days, multiple times per day, as permitted by pool policies. I did not let COVID defeat me with my swim goals. I am on track of reaching my swim time goals this summer despite the pandemic.
Please feel free to contact my parents Liv and David at 916-243-8933 or [email protected] to discuss recruitment opportunities for year 2023 at your institution. Thank you for your consideration.
