My name is Jack Mark and I will be a senior at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School this fall. Although I am a serious swimmer, I didn’t become serious about swimming until my freshman year of high school. I first became involved in swimming in middle school where I began swimming for my local Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) team. I loved competing as part of a team and following my experience with CYO, I wanted to continue to swim competitively. Unfortunately, my high school did not have a boys swim team. I continued to practice and train and I was ultimately accepted to a private USA swim team, Freedom Aquatics. The team environment at Freedom Aquatics was very different from CYO. We practice and train as a team, but compete individually. I would love to return to the team atmosphere and camaraderie in college.
As a student, I work hard to excel in my schoolwork while also swimming 6 days a week. At school, I am a technical theater major and assist in the production of the many school performances at my high school. I remain committed to advancing in swimming and my education during college.
Aside from swimming and competing, I continue to volunteer with CYO to help younger swimmers learn to swim.
