My name is Riley Brown. I am a senior at D.H. Conley High School in Greenville, North Carolina. I specialize as a sprint butterflier and IMer, but am a strong backstroker and breaststroker as well. I’ve maintained a 4.2 weighted GPA (3.875 unweighted GPA) while balancing swimming, Honors and AP classes, and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
It has always been a firm belief of mine that being able to swim is an important skill. For this reason, I taught swim lessons to underprivileged inner-city youth for my Eagle Scout project. This experience taught me the value of personal responsibility, and gave me key leadership experience that I use daily.
Right before my freshman year of high school, I suffered a severe concussion. I was unable to swim for 8-9 months. Through this I learned the importance of perseverance. With hard work and dedication, I regained my strength and continued to push myself in and out of the pool.
I hope to attend a college that will prepare me for a career in the fields of political science and education. I intend to work hard to maintain my grades while staying committed to the swim team.
I look forward to making a positive impact on my team both in and out of the water. I am open to all opportunities to continue my academic and athletic career.
