I turned 18 years old February 4, 2021, and I am a senior at Shawnee HS in Lima, Ohio. I qualified to do all my senior year classes at Ohio State University and received all As Fall 2020. I am very interest in swimming at the collegiate level as I pursue an undergraduate degree. I am planning on majoring in accounting for my undergraduate studies and getting my CPA certification as well. I also plan to continue my education and get a MBA.
I have been a year-around swimmer since the age of 5 along with my two older brothers. No high schools have pools in the Lima area, so we share a pool at a local YMCA with 5 other teams. I train with a focus on improving my technique and swim on the side with my brother, Trey - an OSU graduate and a certified USA Swim Coach for Amelioration Race Club (ameliorationraceclub.com) and Technique Swim Center in Lima, Ohio. I enjoy all the teams I swim for and enjoy the camaraderie of my teammate whether it is summer, high school or YMCA swim.
Academics have always been important to my parents and me. I have taken advanced classes since the beginning of Middle School and continue to do so.
Work experience, volunteering, leadership and trying new things are also very important. Freshman year of high school, I was on student government and was elected class president by my peers. Student government was a great experience, and I discovered it wasn’t an area I was interested in pursuing. I host high school swim team events at our house, volunteer at our local river clean up, mentor younger swimmers, and participate in Operation Christmas Child each year. I also work as a lifeguard in the summers.
Thank you,
John Briggs 2021
