I began swimming competitively in the seventh grade which as you may know is later than most of my peers. My swimming career has been an up hill battle from being delayed due to health problems to being unable to practice as much as most of the other swimmers because my school does not offer a high school level swim team. I feel that these dilemmas have shaped me into a very hard working and dedicated athlete; for example, not being able to practice at a high school level has not only forced me to work twice as hard in order to catch up to my peers and made me focus on my swimming technique rather than rely on high levels of endurance and strength but also start my own team in order to compete with other kids my age and, my health problems have taught me how to properly take care of my body outside of the water in order to succeed in the water. Along with working extraordinarily hard as an athlete, I put forth the same amount of vigor in my academic work; during my junior year I competed on two swim teams while taking five science classes with three of them being advanced and participated in the dual enrollment program through Clarion University. Finally, the reason I want to swim in college is to finally be apart of a team and contribute to something that is bigger than myself.
