Starting swimming has completely changed my life. I started this sport when I was around 10 years old. I got into it because of my dad, who swam when he was younger. I was talking with him and he told me that he thinks I could go far in swimming and that he sees potential in me. What I have learned about myself during swimming is that I determine my own greatness. I have worked very hard to get where I am today. My academic goals for high school include keeping my GPA above 3.7, maintaining distinguished honor roll, and staying determined to further my education. While in college I would like to maintain my same high school goals. One of my biggest struggles earlier in my swimming career was my self- confidence. I used to get very nervous and be extremely anxious prior to racing. I would tell myself that I could not do it and convince myself that I was going to lose. If I lost I would take it very hard, be upset and let it ruin my meet. After more experience, I am now very calm before races and my confidence has increased. If I lose, I take it as a learning experience and reflect on what I could have done better. Some unique things about me are some of my personality traits. I am very social with everyone I meet. I try to make the people around me happy, feel supported, and be more confident. For example, if a member of my relay team false starts, I will not be harsh on them, and I try to understand them and make them feel better about it.
